long arm quilting machine

Here is a long arm quilting machine at a quilting shop in Greenacres, Florida. This machine is basically an extremely large sewing machine that is computerized and does the actual quilting for you. I brought my finished patch work layer, batting(purchased in the store) and backing fabric to be sewn together. I was going to sew the binding together myself, but the store clerk suggested experimenting on a smaller piece to begin with. I am learning the language of sewing. There are so many unfamiliar terms and at the same time fascinating. Quilting has opened up a whole new world of creativity.

once again

I'm at the tail end of the quilt. I did not bother to photograph the ongoing project because I'm still working on the same patchwork. I will keep you posted once I start the batting. In the meantime, I've started to move forward with a new project, it is watercolors of the Florida landscape. It has been centuries since I had my hands on this medium. I wanted to capture the Florida terrain, which I grew up with, and as an adult I have become fond of.

60" x 70"

This is how the quilt looks on the bed at 60" x 70". I'm working towards a 80" x 80" piece. I'll also be attending a quilting guild, for the first time, in the next few days. I hope to get some great creative ideas, as well as, tips on applying batting(I'm really nervous about the batting!!!!)

a major seam will be sewn

My father commented that I've probably put in two thousand hours of hand sewing, on this quilt, it almost feels that way. But I can see the finishing line approaching with the patch work, then comes batting, which I'm a little nervous about.
