It’s an overcast day and the air is warm and steamy. Not the
most comfortable considering there is no central air-conditioning, but the cool
nights are pleasant to sleep in. We are almost considered off the grid. Internet
service is sparse, which lead to downloading photos on my blog a big hassle. I’m
surrounded by nature and there is no technology to interfere with my
creativity. It is a simple way of life, but quite honestly I don’t think I
could live in such a place permanently. For the moment it is charming.
Below are a few pictures of the studio I’m working in.
Again, it overlooks the rainforest and I’m completely open to the elements. The
images I’ve been construing in my mind for the past few weeks are now coming
through on my present canvases. They’re almost like two vanishing points that
extend to the edges of the canvas. When looking at the images Vija Celmins and
Agnes Martin come to mind. Celmins, her delicate and intricate paintings of
cobwebs and Martin’s soft, but ridgid and interwoven abstracts. This first
painting is just the beginning layer, more to come.
